About Us

Joe Donovan was introduced to the sport of boxing by his father Joey Donovan, a former prize fighter (The Astoria Assassin). He sparked a passion for boxing in Joe early in life as he shared stories of his amateur and professional boxing career. By the time Joe Donovan was a teenager he was sparring regularly, during his 20's, after years of practice and his inherited natural ability, he became a contender in the local amateur boxing tournaments.

Under the guidance of Joe Gallo and Tommy Gallager in South Queens Boys Club, Joe Donovan boxed with former world champions Mark Breland, Mike McCallum and Vito Antuofermo shaping him to become the next champion. He also went to Billy McCoy's Boxing Gym in Freeport, Long Island to train and fight under Pete Brodsky of the West Hampstead Pal.

During 1984, 1986 and 1997 Joe Donovan fought in the Golden Gloves. In 1997 he won the metro boxing tournament. After success in the ring, Joe Donovan realized his natural talent and love was to teach consequently he made the shift from prize fighter to become a boxing trainer. For the past thirteen years he has been successfully teaching boxing to people of all ages and from diverse backgrounds. His intensity and passion is nothing short of infectious, motivating and inspiring his students to the next level for strength and goals
